Character

Sow a Thought, and you reap an Act;
Sow an Act, and you reap a Habit;
Sow a habit, and you reap a Character;
Sow a Character, and you reap a Destiny.

What are you made of?

Character: The set of individual qualities that make somebody or something distinctive, especially somebody's qualities of mind and feeling.

Abraham Lincoln said, “Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.”

Are you strong like a mighty oak tree? Do your roots go deep? Are you a person of substance? When the sky gets dark and the weather gets rough, does your character stand strong like a growing tree, or does it fade away the same way a shadow does when the clouds roll in?

Character Is Definately An Inside Job!

1. Gifts And Talents Are Given To Us, But Character Is Developed By Us.

2. Our Character Is Crucial Because It Earns The Trust Of Others.

3. Only Good Character Gives Us Lasting Success With People.

4. Strong Character Communicates Credibility And Consistency.

5. Our Character Colors Our Perspective.

6. We Cannot Rise Above The Limitations Of Our Character.

What You Are Will Outlast What People Say You Are.

Time Is The Builder And Revealer Of Character.

We buried my father in law last week he was 82 years old. Frank Tristan was a Christian for 76 years. That’s right saved at 6 and never looked back! He was a Great Husband, father, friend of the Church. A man of TRUE CHARACTER!

Risk

No Risk No Reward!

It’s no shock that the most successful people seem to be those who take significant risks. They jeopardize their personal comfort. They challenge the status quo. They put their money and time at stake.

Taking a Risk is a Creative Act.

What Are The Characteristics Of Risk-Takers?

Remember that the fear of failure is the most paralyzing of human emotions. The fear of failure stops us from trying, from daring, from succeeding. It must be confronted. Don’t grow old saying, “I wish I had. I should have. Why didn’t I?” failure is not to be dreaded, but to confront, reject, and overcome.” ~Mark Shields

On June 6th 1944 thousands of American paratroopers jumped into Normandy. Four men refused to jump. Can you imagine, can anyone imagine the rest of these lives? What prodigies of self-excuse, rational, or repression they must have had to employ? Their lives, in effect, ended the moment they refused to leave the plane. As would the lives of the Jews, had they refused to step into the Red Sea. As will yours and mine if we refuse the challenge to change…we stagnate and perform ever greater acts of repression and hypocrisy, to explain to ourselves why we don’t immerse ourselves in the mysteries of life. We all die in the end, but there is no reason to die in the middle. ~David Mamet

Stuff Happens!

Stuff Happens!

Life is Full of “Surprises!”

Some Great. Some Not so Great.

In your pursuit of Success in any field, something may happen (or fail to happen) and you may think that you have been deluding yourself about a Happy ending.

But Listen: Every Successful person has experienced Failure. It’s just part of taking the risk of a brighter and better future.

If – and when – you fail to reach a goal, or you disappoint yourself or others, remember it’s not the getting knocked down that counts it’s the staying down that does you in.

In fact most successful people I know count occasional failure and disappoints as a requirement of success.

Success is how High you bounce when you’ve hit bottom. ~George Patton

Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm. ~Winston Churchill

Only those who dare to fail greatly, can ever achieve greatly. ~Bobby Kennedy

Garrison Keillor, writer, comedian, and radio host said it this way:

We need to talk about the pursuit of failure. A person who does not know failure is a person with a poor sense of reality. A person who goes through his twenties and thirties racking up one prize after another, getting the great job and the beautiful size 4 wife and the starter mansion and the two beautiful, gifted children with the Celtic names, is a man headed for a gigantic midlife crisis in which he runs away with a waitress named Misty and perms his hair and becomes a 45-year old singer/songwriter….You don’t want that.

Stuff Happens! But it happens to everyone. And it may just be for a reason.

You are who you are Today because of “ALL” The Stuff that has Happened to you.

It’s not the “Stuff” It’s how you Respond that counts!

If You are going through some “Stuff” hang in there, and know this:

Deb & I are Praying for You….And We Believe You will Survive.

SEE YOU IN CHURCH

We really need you all to leave a “Comment” this week. I just need to Know that somebody is really reading all this “Stuff.”

Prayer

PRAYER

In a general sense, the act of asking for a favor, and particularly with earnestness.

In worship, a solemn address to the Supreme Being, consisting of adoration, or an expression of our sense of God's glorious perfections, confession of our sins, supplication for mercy and forgiveness, intercession for blessings on others, and thanksgiving, or an expression of gratitude to God for his mercies and benefits. A prayer however may consist of a single petition, and it may be extemporaneous, written or printed.

We all know we should. We all know it works. But who has the Time?

Jesus shows us a pattern for making Prayer a Priority again.

And when he had sent the multitudes Away, he went up into a mountain Apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there Alone. ~Matthew 14:23

Away… Sometimes we have to send things, appointments, hobbies, and demands on our time and yes even people away. Many of these “Things” will seem urgent, legitimate and important. All clamoring for our time and attention. But you see His work did not control Him; he controlled His work. His “To-Do” list included saving the whole world! But He still saw the Necessity of Prioritizing His prayer life.

Apart… Somehow or another we must get Apart from this world and connect with our Father who is not of this world. We need to get Apart from the sin, the silliness, the selfishness of the Now and focus on the Eternal.

Alone… I know there are times we can and must pray with others, but I remind you that when Jesus gave encouragement and instruction to pray He said get Alone in private behind a closed door and get Alone with God.

Remember: A Lot Of Kneeling Will Keep You In Good Standing.

Deb & I are Praying For You, so you Pray for US!

See you in Church.
